Biedenharn Coca-Cola Museum 2022

If you like Coca-Cola this museum is a great display of history and how it was bottled for the very first time. To see and learn about the process really makes one appreciate the hard work and creativity of those who came before us. It definitely wasn’t easy in the beginning to get Coke off of the fountain and into bottles. The first cap was similar to a champagne bottle and when one pulled it made a popping sound. That’s how the term “Soda Pop” came into being. That’s just the beginning of what you will learn. Coca-Cola was also invented by Confederate Lieutenant John Pemberton who was also a pharmacist. Mr. Pemberton even added cocaine to the formula for the first 17 years of production until the US government started regulating it. The museum is an awesome place to visit. Vicksburg Civil War Museum 2022

Upon entering the Vicksburg Civil War Museum, I knew immediately that I was in for a learning experience. There was more to learn than I had time available. The one thing that really struck a nerve with me was breeding cells. This is where they took a slave and placed a burlap sack over his head to impregnate whomever the master’s had selected. It could be his sister, daughter, cousin, mother, etc. I learned from friend that this is where the term motherfucker came from. Then there was the Klan uniform bearing the cross. The group missed commandment six which states, “You Shall Not Murder.” Actually, they missed the whole meaning of Christianity and all the commandments. They might as well replace the cross with an image of Satan because there is absolutely nothing Christian about them. God says there are false prophets. That’s their teaching. False Christianity. Sadly, even today, hate exists. Why? We live in a fallen world. Only Jesus is perfect, and the world will never be perfect until his return. Until then all we can do is educate people. Frederick Douglass stated, “Education means emancipation. It means light and liberty. It means uplifting the soul of man into the glorious light of truth, the light by which men can only be made free.” If you like to learn and love freedom, I highly recommend the Vicksburg Civil War Museum which you can learn more about at the link below. Blackened Catfish with Crawfish Etouffee

Wow! I am always cooking something, but I am not always writing about it. I wanted to cook a Blackened Catfish recipe that could be topped with a Crawfish Etouffee, as I have recently been cooking more with cast iron. Cast iron is another topic, but I must say it is the best cookware I have ever used, and it is very non-stick and versatile, if you treat it the way it needs to be treated. During my search for a recipe, I came across this one for the Blackened Catfish and wanted to share it. Chef Charlie Andrews makes the video simple and if you follow it you will have some excellent Blackened Catfish which you can eat as a stand alone or you can top with whatever your heart desires such as shrimp, scallops, crab meat, etc. Chef Charlie Andrews knocks it out of the park with this Blackened Catfish recipe. Petit Jean State Park Scenery 2020

Located in the Petit Jean River Valley of Arkansas is a beautiful state park with many hiking trails, a swimming pool, tennis courts, lake, fishing, etc. I really liked Cedar Falls. If you look close you will see the falls in the hole. The valley was amazing! The rock formations are called the turtles and the cave is Rock Cave. A few photos from my visit to this exceptional park in Arkansas. In the Bible Mount Nebo is the place where Moses died. Perhaps the name for this park is derived from the similarities in mountains. Trinity River Wildlife Refuge 2020

Life calls for us to detach sometimes and enjoy serenity, peace, and the sounds of nature. I do it often and have found many places that harbor much beauty. Recently, I loaded up for a trip into the Trinity River Wildlife Refuge. There are many birds, mammals, amphibians, gators, snakes, turtles, fish, etc. The quiet forest in the refuge gives way to a musical symphony of sounds uncommon in the urban jungle. A beautiful chorus of song and dance from the whimsical creatures all around. Here are a few photos I shot while exploring. Enjoy!

Rip Van Winkle Gardens 2020

Rip Van Winkle is a story written by Washington Irving in 1819, about a farmer who falls asleep in the Catskill Mountains of New York for 20 years, and he misses the whole American Revolution. Rip Van Winkle was played by actor Joseph Jefferson, over 4,500 hundred times, all over the world on stage. He purchased Orange Island, La in 1870 to make a hunting lodge, and to have a winter retreat. Eventually the Island was named Jefferson Island. It now has a rookery and the former home and gardens of Joseph Jefferson for tour. I enjoyed my visit tremendously! The Live Oaks and Spanish moss are worth the trip. It is beautiful! Lake Fausse Pointe State Park 2020

Lake Fausse Pointe State Park in St. Martinville, Louisiana is buried deep in the Atchafalaya basin. This is the place and home area to many of the swamp people you see on the T.V. show series Swamp People. It is a mystical area where wildlife abounds. As one local Cajun stated, “One doesn’t need a grocery store in these areas. We’ll survive. We have nutria, alligator, turtle, frogs, snakes, deer, hog, possum, coon (short for raccoon), honey, crawfish….and he went on. We have sugar cane, we have rice, we have all we need.” I believe this to, because the closet civilization is close to 25 miles away. Out here the night is so dark you cannot see your hands in front of you. You here sounds and movement but you cannot see. It creates much curiosity, but most of all the relaxation away from the big city is incredible. Here are a few photos from my trip. Two are outside of the park, but in the area.
