Recently I have been experimenting with Winter tree photography. Catching different shadows, backgrounds, and angles. Winter provides a different setting because the trees are naked of their leaves. I really like these shots. I hope you do too.

December 2017 brought us three inches of snow and January 2018 has brought us Arctic temperatures of nineteen, sleet, ice, and flurries with wind chills in teens. Being a sub-tropical climate this is quite rare for us, but I do enjoy Houston’s Arctic Tundra. It definite lends itself to a time to take photos that I would not normally have the opportunity to shoot.
A New Year’s Day Hike 2018

Every year I try to hike on the first day of the year. This year it was extremely cold in Needville, Texas at Brazos Bend State Park. The hike started out at 32 degrees with a windchill somewhere between 15-20 degrees Fahrenheit. Survival was dependent on three layers for the legs, four layers for the upper body, and wool socks and insulated hiking boots. As the walk progressed throughout the three-hour hike I saw much wildlife and beautiful scenery. The wind blowing through the trees passing upon my face was like a freezer door open. Christmas in Houston 2017

I love to take photos of the many beautiful sights around our city during Christmas because Christ gives us hope and a route to salvation. In many religions you rely on yourself or figurines. In Judaism, Jesus is just a prophet. In Islam, Jesus(Isa) is also a prophet and is not recognized as the son of God (Allah) because he is not worthy because God is too good to have a son, but as King of the Jews and all Gentiles, he is very worthy. It is why his birthday is celebrated around the world during Christmas . God came in the flesh to save us all without need for good works. All we have to do is have faith and say, “God I would like to be forgiven. Come into my life.” For it is by faith you have been saved, through faith—and it is not from yourselves, it is a gift from God. Ephesians 2:8 Merry CHRISTmas!
Houston Snowmeggedon 2017

Houston, Texas rarely receives snow. In fact it has been close to ten years since our last snow. Hurricane Ike hit us hard and the snow came that year. This time we had Hurricane Harvey and we again have snow. Do hurricanes bring snow? One would think based on observation. Since August we have had a monster hurricane, a world series win by the Houston Astros, a drought, and now snow from Big Bend all the way to Beaumont. Things in Texas change quickly and make for interesting history.

Do you ever look out and suddenly see beauty? Well, that happened to me as I strolled through Stephen F. Austin High School’s garden courtyard area. This school has been around for 80 plus years and soon it will meet the wrecking ball. Older buildings just have a special photographic architecture and beauty about them. These photos captured a place and time that will soon be no more other than history.

I find it so relaxing to take photos of wildlife and visit them out in their home far away from the city. I also enjoy the flowers and other things like moss and bryozoans floating in water. Hurricane Harvey Flood Houston, Texas 2017

I am a native Houstonian of 48 years. I have never seen damage like what I have witnessed on the Texas Coast and in Houston, Texas from a Hurricane. I had some scary moments taking these photos. Our schools are closed for a week, our airports are closed, traffic is two-way on one way freeways, many people are in desperate and life-threatening situations, and we have 20 more inches forecast. This will cause damage for months to come on a financial level. These photos were taken in some of the highest sea level points in Houston. May God protect everyone and bring us all together! It is times like this that we realize we are all human.
Hurricane’s and The Run On Groceries

Hurricane Harvey is approaching and the grocery shelves all over Houston are depleting. A metroplex with five million plus people and people are looking for food. This is very common for us in Texas during hurricane season. Surprisingly Jello and dish soap were plentiful. If a hurricane can empty the shelves, just think if truckers strike or a pro-longed war happens. Food! Do not take it for granted or waste it.
