The Zilker Botanical Garden is what I envision if I were in Heaven with its herb garden, prehistoric garden, cactus and succulent garden, butterfly garden, rose garden, oriental garden, green garden, and pioneer village. I have been many places and for a $2 entrance fee I thought it to be of one of the best values ever. There are so many excellent photo opportunities in the garden areas. It is peaceful, relaxing, and beautiful. I walked it during a day that had 102 degree temperatures and felt totally comfortable. This garden will show you how important canopy cover is to maintaining cool temperatures on the ground even during extreme heat. For more information on Zilker Botanical Garden click this link:

In San Antonio, Texas. there is a place that is so Japanese that you might think you are in Japan. It is Sunken Gardens Japanese Tea Garden located in Brackenridge Park. This park is also home to the San Antonio Zoo.

The park is quiet and lush with exotic vegetation and plants. There is a pavilion and beautiful waterfall within the gardens too. For more information check out

Here are some photos I took while touring the garden. I hope they inspire you to visit this wonderfully, beautiful place, and best yet, it is free.

I took this photo while riding my bike. I looked down and said to myself,”I love these colors together!” The purple little fuzzy flowers are awesome. First time seeing them.

This is some kind of purple flower grass that I took a photo of while biking. I love the color! Does anyone know what it is?

Update: Per Merilee this is Mexican Purple Sage

I took this photo while riding my bike this past weekend. I do not know what kind of flowers these are, but I love purple!

Here is another, no longer, unidentified flower. Per Ray Russel it is an Angel’s Trumpet. I saw this at a festival and said,”I have never seen it. I need a photo.” It’s pretty whatever it is. Post an identity comment if you know what it is. Thanks for posting the comment Ray.

This photo was taken at Chili’s Restaurant Garden in Galveston, Texas. Pansies are awesome!

I am not sure if tiger butterfly is the correct name, but it looks like tiger stripes, so that is what I am calling it.  I took this photo at the Cockrell Butterfly Center.
