In San Antonio, Texas. there is a place that is so Japanese that you might think you are in Japan. It is Sunken Gardens Japanese Tea Garden located in Brackenridge Park. This park is also home to the San Antonio Zoo.

The park is quiet and lush with exotic vegetation and plants. There is a pavilion and beautiful waterfall within the gardens too. For more information check out http://www.saparksfoundation.org/japaneseteagarden.html

Here are some photos I took while touring the garden. I hope they inspire you to visit this wonderfully, beautiful place, and best yet, it is free.

It’s always nice to walk along a path and run into a reptilian friend.  It makes for great photo opportunities and observation. This young, or possibly female gator, was warming in the Texas sun along Elm Lake at Brazos Bend State Park.

Here is a great place to swim and snorkel in the summer. The water is 72 degrees year round, crystal clear, and teaming with underwater wildlife. This is my favorite pool in Texas because it is natural, made of limestone, and varies in depth from inches on one end, to over 25ft deep in another.

To learn more about the pool, hours, fees,  or it’s history follow this link.   http://austintexas.gov/department/barton-springs-pool

Here are a few photos I took at the pool. I hope they inspire you to visit.

I took this photo of a hibernating bat at Longhorn Caverns State Park. I am not sure if it is a brown bat or a pipestrelle bat.

State parks are the best value and some of the most beautiful places a person can visit. Here is another favorite of mine. This park is named Inks Lake State Park in Burnet, Texas.  You can read about it here.  http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/state-parks/inks-lake

It has some great animal viewing, hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, canoeing, boating, fishing, tubing, photography opportunities, or whatever your mind can imagine.

Here are a few photos I took inside the park. I hope they inspire you to visit.

Thanks for stopping by to check out my work.

Having a hobby as a musician, I am often privileged to special parties and events. A few years back, I took several photos at the Lone Star Flight Museum http://www.lsfm.org/index.html  in Galveston, Texas while playing for the U.S.S. Texas Submarine Commissioning party for the United States Navy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Texas_%28SSN-775%29

The museum has a great collection of vintage war planes. If you want to do a draw down on your wallet, they also offer plane rides in a few selected aircraft.

So if you’re in Galveston, Texas, make a trip over to the museum, and learn a little about the history of flight.

Here are a few photos from the museum.

One of the most relaxing enjoyable rides is on a train. In the East Texas piney woods, between Rusk and Palestine, we have the Texas State Railroad. https://www.texasstaterr.com/

If you are ever clamoring for a weekend trip from Houston, I highly recommend riding the train through the woods.

I took these photos while on the Engine 300 steam locomotive.

This is what a beautiful, fat, healthy, 12 foot gator looks like sunning himself in the wild.

This photo was taken be me at Chicot State Park in Ville Platte, LA at about 3o yards away in a canoe.

In Houston, on the Northside of downtown, there is a place that has held my heart for many years. This place is Canino’s Farmers Market located at 2520 Airline Drive,  Houston, TX 77009. Canino’s has everything that one can imagine in the way of fresh produce and vegetables at about 25 to 40% less than retail grocery prices. Much of what Canino’s offers is locally grown in Texas. It is a great place to explore, save money, purchase fresh fruits, vegetables, dry beans, rice, nuts, flowers, and local raw honey and preserves. During my trip yesterday, I asked if I could take photos and share them on my blog. The manager graciously approved. So here are some images from Canino’s Farmers Market.
