Here is a great place to swim and snorkel in the summer. The water is 72 degrees year round, crystal clear, and teaming with underwater wildlife. This is my favorite pool in Texas because it is natural, made of limestone, and varies in depth from inches on one end, to over 25ft deep in another.

To learn more about the pool, hours, fees,  or it’s history follow this link.   http://austintexas.gov/department/barton-springs-pool

Here are a few photos I took at the pool. I hope they inspire you to visit.

Albert………..some nice shots of Barton Springs. Most of my out of town guests have never heard of it, but on their second visit it’s on their “must do ” list.
    Thanks for sharing

It took me many years to discover it, but when I did I make it a part of my Austin visits. Thank you for the compliments on my photos.

Your welcome! I am glad you find my post meaningful.

When I went as a girl and teen, it was also topless, so I remember being inundated with so many bare chests!

Austin used to have Hippy Hollow too. I am not so sure nudist use it as much anymore with the drought hitting Lake Travis so hard. I never new Barton Springs had European Sun Bathers. LOL

The ladies’ bathroom was enormous and had no roof, and it was like looking at a 70s Playboy LOL. I have to admit in college I did go to Hippie Hollow and (w/ no straight men around), felt okay doing the European thing. But you’re right: when will this drought end??

  3. A most magnificent place. I cah highly recommend it!
