I am not sure if tiger butterfly is the correct name, but it looks like tiger stripes, so that is what I am calling it. I took this photo at the Cockrell Butterfly Center.

The BoardWalk Bullet

The BoardWalk Bullet is located in Kemah, Texas at the Kemah Boardwalk. With the closure of Astroworld, Houston’s only amusement park, it looked as if we would be a major metropolitan city without a roller coaster. Today, within 26 miles of downtown Houston, we have a wooden beast that is slightly bigger than the old Texas Cyclone at Astroworld. The bullet ratttles and rolls as it hits banked curves, steep drops, a camel back type hills. When looking at the coaster it looks as if there is not much to it, but the wooden beams hide much of the track. Once you are riding it quickly become obvious that you have entered a great coaster. Ragin Cajun

Houston has a restaurant that can make your feel as if your right home in Southern Louisiana Cajun Country. This restaurant is known as Ragin Cajun. Ragin Cajun serves some of the best po-boys, red beans and rice, boudin balls, gumbo, etouffe, jambalaya, crawfish, shrimp, blue crabs, and oysters on the half-shell around. The accordion’s sing out of the speakers as Cajun music is played. The tables inside are linked together, so you get a community feel, and often find yourself talking to complete strangers. Unless your related to the Scrooge, your tongue should dance to the flavors of Ragin Cajun. For more information visit http://www.ragin-cajun.com/

Kenny and Ziggy’s

When it comes to Jewish food or N.Y. Style Deli, the only place in Houston I recommend is Kenny and Ziggy’s. You have two options, come really hungry, or take home left-overs for another day. The portions are huge and bursting with flavor! My personal favorites are Lox and Bagels, Corned Beef Hash, Cabbage Rolls, Chicken Matzo Soup, on any of the lovely sandwiches, especially the triple decker pictured below. If you still have room to eat after a great meal, you can try the foot long, about four inch wide, chocolate eclair. Let’s not forget the ten inch tall apple pie either. The deserts are magnificent. The Girl Who Sang
I met a girl who sang a lot.
Her mouth was like a big ole pot.
When she opened wide,
Her eyes popeyed.
Reminding me of kumquats.

When I am having one of those days were I feel grain, nuts, fruits, yogurt, and salad are not going to fulfill my hunger, I head over to THIS IS IT SOUL FOOD restaurant.
THIS IS IT cooks a variety of dishes that will fill a stomach to satisfaction, and make a heart feel as warm as when momma says,”I love you.”
My favorite combination is oxtails, candied yams, cabbage, and bread pudding for desert. I can never go wrong. You will never go wrong either, if you enjoy the flavors of Houston’s THIS IS IT. For more information, a menu, or history, visit http://www.houstonthisisit.com/

My stomach sent a message of hunger to my brain and the first thing I thought about was biscuits and gravy. I don’t have them, nor are they available at the moment, so I decided to write a Haiku and imagine them. I hope you enjoy the Haiku.
